Privacy policy

GameLabs is made for children, students and adults learning together. Players never create an account, and we never ask for names, ages, schools, email addresses or photos. Stars, progress and streaks are saved only on your own device.

Who we are

Dr. Ogunmola GameLabs (“GameLabs”) is a collection of free educational games by Dr. Oluwaseun Ogunmola, played at gamelabs.ogunmola.com.ng, in the GameLabs app for Android and as Instant Games on Facebook. This policy covers all three. There are no adverts, no in-app purchases and no accounts.

What stays on your device

To remember your progress, the games save a few small notes in your browser’s storage on your own phone, tablet or computer. They are never sent to us or anyone else. They include:

  • stars, levels reached, best scores and which questions to practise again;
  • settings such as sound and read-aloud;
  • your daily streak and the days you played;
  • in Globe Hop, an optional “home” pin on the map, if you choose to set one;
  • in Colour Carnival, pictures you choose to save go to your own device’s downloads.

You can delete all of this at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings, or by uninstalling the app. The streak “backup code” is just a short summary of your streak (days in a row, best streak and date) that you can copy yourself. It contains nothing about who you are.

No game uses the camera, microphone, location or contacts.

Visit statistics (Umami)

To learn which games help most and to improve them, we count visits and game events with Umami (opens in a new tab), a privacy-focused service that uses no cookies and does not identify or track individual people across websites. It records things like the page visited, the kind of device and browser, the country, the website that linked here, and game events such as a round finished, the level and score, and how many days a streak has lasted. Your IP address is not stored. We never sell this information or use it for advertising.

Meta Pixel (website only, adult pages only)

On the website, the home page, the game information pages and the terms page use a Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure visits that come from our Facebook and Instagram adverts. It uses cookies set by Meta. The Pixel is never loaded on game screens, which children use, and never inside the Android app. You can control ads and cookies in your Facebook and Instagram ad settings and in your browser.

Google Analytics (website only, adult pages only)

On the website, the home page, the game information pages and the terms page also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use GameLabs. It uses cookies set by Google and records things like pages viewed, the kind of device and browser, and the approximate area a visit comes from. We have turned off Google’s advertising features (Google signals and ad personalisation) for GameLabs. Google Analytics is never loaded on game screens, which children use, and never inside the Android app. You can block it with your browser’s privacy settings or Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout (opens in a new tab).

Game alerts newsletter (website only, optional)

On the website’s home page, adults can choose to give an email address to receive news about new games. These sign-ups are handled by EmailOctopus and used only to send GameLabs news. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. The sign-up form is not shown inside the Android app, and we do not want children to use it.

The Android app

The GameLabs app opens the same games as the website, full screen. It asks for no special permissions, shows no adverts, has no purchases, and does not include the Meta Pixel, Google Analytics or the newsletter form. Progress is kept on the device as described above, and visits are counted with Umami as described above. Google Play may also collect information about app installs and crashes under Google’s own privacy policy.

GameLabs games on Facebook

Some GameLabs games can also be played inside Facebook as Instant Games. There, Meta runs the game under its own privacy policy (opens in a new tab). Our Facebook games use Meta’s “Zero Permissions” setup, which shares as little as possible with game makers. We do not ask Facebook for your name, profile picture, email address, age or friends list, and we do not store them. Facebook may give each game an anonymous player number that only works inside that game, and it can save your stars and levels with your Facebook account so you can carry on later. We only use this to run the game and to count anonymous game events, such as rounds finished, to improve the games. Facebook games show no adverts and have no purchases.

Deleting your data

You can delete everything GameLabs keeps about you at any time. Our data deletion page explains how for the website, the Android app, our Facebook games and the newsletter.

Children

Many players are children, so GameLabs is built to collect as little as possible. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and players can enjoy every game without telling us anything about themselves. We aim to follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation and the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has sent us personal information (for example through the newsletter form), contact us and we will delete it.

Our web host and other websites

Like every website, our web host keeps short-term server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and to fix problems. Links to other websites (for example the author’s website) open those sites, which have their own privacy policies.
